Bhṛgu–Bharadvāja-saṃvāda: Vānaprastha-parivrājaka-ācāra, Abhaya-dharma, and Lokānāṃ Vibhāga (Śānti-parva 185)
षड्ज ऋषभगान्धारौ मध्यमो धैवतस्तथा । पज्चमश्नापि विज्ञेयस्तथा चापि निषादवान्
ṣaḍja ṛṣabha-gāndhārau madhyamo dhaivatas tathā | pañcamaś cāpi vijñeyas tathā cāpi niṣādavān ||
Bharadvāja disse: “Conhece as notas musicais assim: Ṣaḍja, Ṛṣabha e Gāndhāra; depois Madhyama e Dhaivata; e também Pañcama—junto com Niṣāda.” Nesta instrução, o sábio dispõe a ordem do som, sugerindo que o saber disciplinado e o arranjo correto (krama) são essenciais para toda arte refinada e, por extensão, para uma vida bem governada.
भरद्वाज उवाच
The verse teaches the ordered recognition of the musical notes (svaras). By emphasizing correct identification and sequence, it implicitly upholds the broader ethical idea that knowledge, practice, and harmony arise from disciplined structure.
