असंतोषादिदोष-निरूपणम्
On the Faults of Discontent and the Discipline of Detachment
विषयान् प्रतिसंगृहा संन््यासं कुरुते यति: । न च तुष्यन्ति राजान: पश्य बुद्धयन्तरं यथा,यत्नशील साधक विषयोंका परित्याग करके संन्यास ग्रहण कर लेता है तो वह संतुष्ट हो जाता है। परंतु विषयभोगोंसे सम्पन्न समृद्धिशाली राजा कभी संतुष्ट नहीं होते। देखो, इन दोनोंके विचारोंमें कितना अन्तर है?
viṣayān pratisaṅgṛhya saṃnyāsaṃ kurute yatiḥ | na ca tuṣyanti rājānaḥ paśya buddhayantaram yathā ||
O renunciante, após recolher e então pôr de lado os objetos dos sentidos, assume a vida de renúncia e torna-se contente. Mas os reis—embora dotados de prazeres e prosperidade—não se satisfazem. Vê, pois, quão grande é a diferença entre seus modos de pensar.
युधिछिर उवाच
Contentment arises from renunciation and mastery over sense-objects, whereas worldly power and abundant enjoyments do not guarantee satisfaction; the inner outlook (buddhi) determines peace.
Yudhiṣṭhira contrasts the mindset of an ascetic who embraces saṃnyāsa and becomes content with the mindset of kings who, despite prosperity and pleasures, remain unsatisfied—highlighting a moral difference in their aims.
