Dasyu-maryādā and Buddhi-guided Rāja-nīti (दस्युमर्यादा तथा बुद्धिप्रधान-राजनीति)

पूजन्युवाच नास्ति वैरमतिक्रान्तं सान्त्वितो5स्मीति नाश्वसेत्‌ । विश्वासाद्‌ वध्यते लोके तस्माच्छेयो5प्यदर्शनम्‌,पूजनी बोली--राजन्‌! इस प्रकार कभी वैर शान्त नहीं होता है। “शत्रुने मुझे सान्त्वना दी है,' ऐसा समझकर उसपर कभी विश्वास नहीं करना चाहिये। ऐसी अवस्थामें विश्वास करनेसे जगतमें अपने प्राणोंसे भी (कभी-न-कभी) हाथ धोना पड़ता है, इसलिये वहाँ मुँह न दिखाना ही अच्छा है

pūjanī uvāca nāsti vairam atikrāntaṃ sāntvito ’smīti nāśvaset | viśvāsād vadhyate loke tasmāc chreyo ’py adarśanam ||

Pūjanī disse: “Ó rei, a hostilidade não é verdadeiramente superada desse modo. Não se deve afrouxar, pensando: ‘Meu inimigo me apaziguou’, e então confiar nele. Neste mundo, muitos são mortos por confiança mal colocada; por isso, o mais seguro é não mais se mostrar—manter-se fora de vista.”
