Dasyu-maryādā and Buddhi-guided Rāja-nīti

A wrong leaves a lasting imprint on both sides: the victim cannot easily forget the injury, and the perpetrator cannot easily escape the awareness of having done it. Therefore, reconciliation and renewed friendship after harm are difficult and require more than outward agreement.
In a didactic exchange within Śānti Parva, Pūjanī addresses a king and reflects on the social and psychological aftermath of wrongdoing, explaining why genuine friendship rarely returns between an offender and the offended.
