Śīla-prāpti and Śīla-lakṣaṇa (शीलप्राप्ति-शीललक्षणम्) | On the Acquisition and Marks of Character

Educational Q&A

Do not reject dharma, artha, and kāma outright; instead, use them only insofar as they serve true welfare, while remaining inwardly detached through tapas—giving up possessiveness and attachment to outcomes.

In the Śānti Parva’s instruction section, Bhishma continues advising Yudhiṣṭhira on right conduct after the war, explaining how a householder or ruler may engage worldly aims without being bound by them.
