Daṇḍotpatti-kathana (Origin and Function of Daṇḍa) — वसुहोम–मान्धातृ संवाद
भर्तप्रत्यय उत्पन्नो व्यवहारस्तथापर: । तस्माद् यः स हितो दृष्टो भर्तप्रत्ययलक्षण:
bhartapratyaya utpanno vyavahāras tathāparaḥ | tasmād yaḥ sa hito dṛṣṭo bhartapratyayalakṣaṇaḥ ||
Bhishma disse: Há também uma forma de procedimento jurídico que nasce da confiança depositada num senhor (ou autoridade), distinta do procedimento que surge de uma disputa levantada por autor e réu. Por isso, a punição ou decisão dada com base nessa confiança—conhecida como do tipo «bhartapratyaya»—é tida como benéfica para o bem-estar do mundo inteiro.
