मृदु-तीक्ष्ण-नीति तथा दुष्टलक्षण-विज्ञानम्

Measured Policy and the Recognition of Malicious Disposition

इन्द्र रवाच अहितेषु कथं ब्रह्मन्‌ प्रवर्तेयमतन्द्रित: । असमुच्छिद्य चैवैतान्‌ नियच्छेयमुपायत:,इन्द्र बोले--ब्रह्मन! मैं आलस्यरहित हो अपने शत्रुओंके प्रति कैसा बर्ताव करूँ? उन सबका समूलोच्छेद किये बिना ही उन्हें किस उपायसे वशमें करूँ?

indra uvāca—ahiteṣu kathaṃ brahman pravarteyam atandritaḥ | asamucchidya caivaitān niyaccheyam upāyataḥ ||

Indra disse: “Ó brâmane, como devo, mantendo-me livre da indolência, conduzir-me diante dos que me são hostis? E, sem arrancá-los pela raiz, por que meio posso contê-los e trazê-los sob controle?”
