The Search for Duryodhana at Dvaipāyana Lake

etad vai kāraṇaṃ sarvaṃ vistareṇa nivedaya | satyaparāyaṇa vidureṇa praṇamya sammukhaṃ sthitvā yuyutsave uktam— “vatsa! mahāsaubhāgyasya te, yat kauravāṇāṃ asmin vikaṭe saṃhāre ’pi tvaṃ jīvitaḥ śeṣaḥ; kintu rājñaḥ yudhiṣṭhirasya hastināpura-praveśāt pūrvam eva tvaṃ iha kathaṃ samāgataḥ? etat sarvaṃ kāraṇaṃ me vistareṇa brūhi.”

Sañjaya disse: “Conta-me toda a razão disso, em pleno detalhe.” Explica-me, em detalhe, toda a causa disso.”

Educational Q&A

The passage foregrounds satya (truth) and responsible inquiry: Vidura, characterized as truth-devoted, seeks a clear, detailed account of events before political transition (Yudhishthira’s entry into Hastinapura), emphasizing that ethical governance depends on truthful testimony and careful understanding of causes.

Sanjaya prompts for a full explanation. Vidura then respectfully approaches Yuyutsu, notes his remarkable survival amid the Kauravas’ destruction, and asks why Yuyutsu has arrived before Yudhishthira’s formal entry into Hastinapura, requesting the complete reason in detail.
