को नु राजकुले जात: कौरवेयो विशेषत: । निरर्थक॑ महद् वैरं कुर्यादन्य: सुयोधनात्
ko nu rājakule jātaḥ kauraveyo viśeṣataḥ | nirarthakaṁ mahad vairaṁ kuryād anyaḥ suyodhanāt ||
Sañjaya disse: “Quem, nascido numa linhagem real — e, mais ainda, sendo um Kaurava — criaria uma inimizade tão grande e tão sem propósito, como fez Suyodhana (Duryodhana)?”
संजय उवाच
The verse criticizes needless, self-destructive hostility: even those born to noble responsibility can fall into futile enmity when driven by pride and obstinacy, as exemplified by Duryodhana.
Sanjaya, narrating events to Dhritarashtra, reflects on the Kaurava situation and expresses astonishment that a prince of the Kuru line—Duryodhana—would initiate and sustain such a vast, pointless feud leading to war.
