Śalya–Yudhiṣṭhira Duel and the Discharge of the Śakti (शल्यवधप्रसङ्गः)
अवादयन्त पज्चाला: सिंहनादांश्व नेदिरे । राजा युधिष्ठिरने उस समय पूर्वोक्त प्रतिज्ञा करके मद्रराज शल्यपर चढ़ाई की। फिर तो पांचाल योद्धा शंख, भेरी आदि सैकड़ों प्रकारके प्रचुर रणवाद्य बजाने और सिंहनाद करने लगे
avādayanta pañcālāḥ siṃhanādāṃś ca nedire |
Disse Sañjaya: Os Pañcālas fizeram soar seus muitos instrumentos de guerra e ergueram brados como de leão. Nesse momento o rei Yudhiṣṭhira, renovando o voto que antes proclamara, avançou para atacar Śalya, rei de Madra. O som de conchas, timbales e incontáveis tambores de guerra tornou-se uma proclamação coletiva de firmeza.
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights the ethical weight of a publicly made vow and the Kṣatriya ideal of steadfastness: once a righteous resolve is declared, a leader must act with courage and responsibility, supported by the collective morale of allies.
As Yudhiṣṭhira moves to engage Śalya, the Madra king, the Pañcāla warriors intensify the battlefield atmosphere by sounding many instruments and shouting lion-roars, signaling the army’s readiness and rallying spirit.
