संत्रासयन्तस्ते विश्वमश्चत्थामानम भ्ययु: । भगवान् शिवके वे पार्षद नाना प्रकारके बाजे बजाने, हँसने, सिंहनाद करने, ललकारने तथा गर्जने आदिके द्वारा सम्पूर्ण विश्वको भयभीत करते हुए अभश्वत्थामाके पास आये
sañjaya uvāca | santrāsayantas te viśvam aśvatthāmānam abhyayuḥ | bhagavān śivake te pārṣadā nānāprakārakāni vādyāni vādya, hasya, siṃhanāda, lalakāra tathā garjana-ādibhiḥ samastaṃ viśvaṃ bhayabhītam kurvantaḥ aśvatthāmānaṃ prati samupāgaman |
Disse Sañjaya: Aterrorizando o mundo inteiro, aqueles assistentes do bem-aventurado Senhor Śiva avançaram em direção a Aśvatthāmā. Com muitos tipos de instrumentos, com risos, rugidos de leão, desafios e brados trovejantes, encheram as direções de pavor ao se aproximarem—um sinal ominoso de que forças divinas agora se moviam no rastro da violência humana.
