Public adharma—especially the humiliation of a woman in a royal court—pollutes the moral and ritual order. The Brahmins’ refusal to perform agnihotra signifies a withdrawal of religious sanction and a warning that unrighteous acts bring immediate social and spiritual consequences.
After Draupadī is dragged and her garment is pulled in the Kaurava court, the community reacts strongly: women mourn continuously, and Brahmins become so indignant that they do not carry out even the customary evening agnihotra in the royal houses, marking the gravity of the offense.
