सभा-पर्यवसान-प्रस्थानवचनम् | Counsel at the Point of Departure
पहले राजभवनमें रहते हुए जिसे वायु तथा सूर्य भी नहीं देख पाते थे, वही मैं आज इस सभाके भीतर महान् जनसमुदायमें आकर सबके नेत्रोंकी लक्ष्य बन गयी हूँ ।।
yāṁ na mṛṣyanti vātena spṛśyamānāṁ gṛhe purā | spṛśyamānāṁ sahante ’dya pāṇḍavās tāṁ durātmanā ||
Aquela que, outrora, vivendo no palácio, os Pāṇḍava não suportavam que nem o vento a tocasse—hoje, nesta mesma assembleia, essa mulher é apalpada por um homem perverso, e ainda assim os filhos de Pāṇḍu o suportam. A cena expõe o colapso do dever e da proteção régios: uma violação pública ocorre diante de anciãos e reis, enquanto aqueles obrigados a defendê-la são constrangidos ao silêncio.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights how adharma becomes socially empowered when protectors and elders tolerate wrongdoing. It critiques the failure of kṣatriya and royal responsibility: a woman who was once guarded with extreme propriety is publicly violated, and the moral scandal is intensified by the Pāṇḍavas’ forced endurance.
In the Kaurava assembly after the dice-game, Draupadī is brought into the sabhā and is being physically seized/handled by Duḥśāsana. The verse contrasts her earlier protected life in the palace with the present public outrage, underscoring the Pāṇḍavas’ helplessness and the assembly’s ethical collapse.
