The verse highlights how arrogance (darpa) clouds judgment: Duryodhana publicly censures Vidura—an embodiment of prudent counsel—showing ethical decline in the court. Disrespect toward wise advisors is portrayed as a symptom of adharma that precipitates greater wrongdoing.
In the royal assembly, Duryodhana—elated and emboldened—utters a denunciation of the chamberlain Vidura and then turns to the attendant Prātikāmin, addressing him before the gathered nobles, setting up the next command in the unfolding court crisis.
