अक्षदेवन-प्रवर्तनम् | Commencement of the Dice Game
एवं दृष्टवा नाभिविन्दामि शर्म समीक्षमाणो<पि कुरुप्रवीर । तेनाहमेवं कृशतां गतश्न विवर्णतां चैव सशोकतां च
evaṁ dṛṣṭvā nābhivindāmi śarma samīkṣamāṇo ’pi kurupravīra | tenāham evaṁ kṛśatāṁ gataś ca vivarṇatāṁ caiva saśokatāṁ ca ||
Duryodhana disse: “Vendo isto, mesmo após refletir cuidadosamente, não encontro paz, ó herói dos Kurus. Por isso caí em tal magreza: minha cor e meu brilho se apagaram, e estou tomado de tristeza.”
दुर्योधन उवाच
Unchecked envy and fixation on others’ success destroys inner peace: even careful reflection cannot soothe a mind ruled by jealousy, leading to physical and emotional deterioration.
In the Sabha Parva context, Duryodhana reacts to what he has witnessed in the royal assembly—others’ rising fortune and honor—and confesses that it has robbed him of peace, making him pale, weak, and grief-stricken.
