Adhyāya 32: Rājasūya-Dīkṣā and Appointment of Court Offices (राजसूयदीक्षा तथा अधिकारविनियोगः)
तत्र युद्ध महच्चासीच्छूरैर्मत्तमयूरकै: । मरुभूमिं स कार्त्स्न्येन तथैव बहुधान्यकम्
tatra yuddhaṁ mahac cāsīc chūrair mattamayūrakaiḥ | marubhūmiṁ sa kārtsnyena tathaiva bahudhānyakam ||
Disse Vaiśampāyana: Ali travou-se uma grande batalha contra os valentes kṣatriyas conhecidos como os Mattamayūras. Depois de submeter por inteiro a região desértica, ele também conquistou a terra chamada Bahudhānyaka.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights the Kṣatriya ethic that sovereignty and order are established through disciplined effort and valor in battle; control over territory is portrayed as the outcome of fulfilling royal duty rather than mere entitlement.
A fierce battle occurs against the Mattamayūra warriors; afterward the conqueror (in this campaign context, Nakula) brings the desert region (Marubhūmi) and the land called Bahudhānyaka under his control.
