बहूनि च सहस्राणि प्रयुतान्यर्बुदानि च । भोजवृष्ण्यन्धकस्त्रीणां हतनाथानि निर्ययु:,भोज, वृष्णि और अन्धक कुलकी अनाथ स्त्रियोंकी संख्या कई हजारों, लाखों और अर्वुदोंतक पहुँच गयी थी। वे सब द्वारकापुरीसे बाहर निकलीं। वृष्णियोंका वह महान्‌ समृद्धिशाली मण्डल महासागरके समान जान पड़ता था। शत्रुनगरीपर विजय पानेवाले रथियोंमें श्रेष्ठ अर्जुन उसे अपने साथ लेकर चले

bahūni ca sahasrāṇi prayutāny arbudāni ca | bhojavṛṣṇyandhakastrīṇāṃ hatanāthāni niryayuḥ |

Vaiśampāyana disse: Muitas milhares—na verdade dezenas de milhares e até crores—de mulheres dos Bhojas, Vṛṣṇis e Andhakas, agora privadas de seus protetores, saíram de Dvārakā. Aquele agrupamento outrora próspero dos Vṛṣṇis parecia vasto como o grande oceano. Arjuna, o primeiro entre os guerreiros de carro e conquistador de cidades inimigas, partiu levando-as sob sua proteção—imagem do pesado dever moral que resta após a queda de um clã: salvaguardar os vulneráveis quando poder e esplendor ruíram.
