Even when tragedy is overwhelming, dharma is upheld through appropriate action—here, performing the prescribed funeral rites in proper order. The verse highlights responsibility, respect for the dead, and ethical steadiness amid calamity.
After the catastrophic internecine slaughter of the Yādavas—brought about by a brāhmaṇa’s curse manifesting as clubs from eraka reeds—Arjuna, grief-stricken, undertakes and completes the necessary obsequial rites for the fallen, following due precedence and custom.
