Vaiśampāyana disse: A comida que fora preparada para alimentar os brāhmaṇas na casa daqueles homens de grande alma foi então dada aos macacos—comida agora maculada pelo cheiro de bebida alcoólica.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights the ethical breach of misusing provisions intended for sacred hospitality (feeding brāhmaṇas). When offerings meant for dharmic duty are degraded—here, made liquor-tainted and diverted—the narrative frames it as a sign of inner disorder and impending ruin.
Food that had been prepared to feed brāhmaṇas is instead distributed to monkeys, and it is described as being accompanied by the smell of liquor. This detail functions as a narrative marker of impropriety and the unraveling atmosphere in the Mausala Parva.
