The verse highlights how moral and social collapse is mirrored by ominous signs in nature; the return of the same eclipse-like conjunction associated with the great war is read as a warning that collective ruin is imminent.
Vaiśampāyana reports a fearful celestial phenomenon attributed to Rāhu—an eclipse-like darkening that makes the lunar days appear distorted—and notes that it matches the portent seen during the Mahābhārata war, signaling impending destruction for those present.
