कर्णस्य सेनापत्याभिषेकः | Karṇa’s Consecration as Commander-in-Chief

सेनाबिन्दु: कुरुश्रेष्ठ कृत्वा कदनमाहवे

sañjaya uvāca |

senābinduḥ kuruśreṣṭha kṛtvā kadanam āhave |

kuruśreṣṭha senābinduḥ sa yuddhe śatrūṇāṃ saṃhāraṃ kṛtvā kālasya gāleṃ gataḥ |

śiśupālasya putro rājā suketuḥ api yuddhe śatru-sainikān vadhitvā svayam api droṇācāryasya hastena māritaḥ ||

Sañjaya disse: «Ó o melhor dos Kurus, Senābindu, após causar grande mortandade na batalha, foi parar nas mandíbulas de Kāla (o Tempo/a Morte). E o rei Suketu, filho de Śiśupāla, tendo abatido soldados inimigos no combate, foi também morto pela mão de Droṇācārya. A passagem ressalta a sombria reciprocidade da guerra: a proeza traz destruição, e até os poderosos são por fim reclamados pelo inexorável Tempo.»
