कर्णवधार्थं धनञ्जयस्य प्रतिज्ञा — Arjuna’s resolve for Karṇa’s defeat
अर्जुन सिषिचुर्बाणै: पर्वत॑ं जलदा इव । कुरुश्रेष्ठ! तदनन्तर होशमें आकर आपके योद्धा अर्जुनपर उसी प्रकार बाणोंकी बौछार करने लगे, जैसे बादल पर्वतपर जलकी वर्षा करते हैं
sañjaya uvāca | arjunaḥ ṣiṣicur bāṇaiḥ parvataṃ jaladā iva | kuruśreṣṭha! tadanantaraṃ hośam ākarāḥ tava yoddhā arjunam upari tathā bāṇānāṃ bauṣṭhāraṃ prāhiṇvan, yathā jaladāḥ parvate jala-vṛṣṭiṃ kurvanti |
Disse Sañjaya: Arjuna encharcou o inimigo com flechas, como nuvens de chuva encharcam uma montanha. Ó o melhor dos Kurus, depois os teus guerreiros, recobrando a compostura, começaram a lançar sobre Arjuna saraivadas de flechas do mesmo modo—como nuvens derramando chuva sobre um monte. O verso ressalta a reciprocidade implacável da batalha: a coragem vacila e retorna, e o conflito se intensifica por uma resolução coletiva e disciplinada, não por mera fúria.
