Karṇa’s Bhārgavāstra and the Search for Yudhiṣṭhira
Chapter 45
The verse foregrounds the ethical gravity of war by emphasizing attentiveness and readiness: the sounds of bowstrings, arrows, and the massed forces signal that heroic resolve and disciplined action (kṣatriya-dharma) are now fully engaged, leaving no room for distraction or complacency.
Sanjaya vividly reports the battlefield atmosphere, directing attention to Karna: the twang of bowstrings, the varied sounds of arrows, and the uproar of men, horses, and chariots, along with the noises of warriors’ equipment, indicating the intensification of combat.
