Śalya disse: “Em toda terra, os homens se deleitam em zombar uns dos outros quando conversam—ferindo-se com o escárnio—e também buscam prazer na união carnal.”
शल्य उवाच
The verse highlights common human tendencies—derisive speech that harms others and indulgence in sensual pleasure—implicitly warning that such habits corrode dignity and ethical conduct, especially in serious contexts like counsel and conflict.
Śalya is speaking, characterizing how people often interact: they exchange barbed jokes that ‘cut’ one another and pursue sensual enjoyment. The remark functions as a pointed observation within his broader discourse in the Karṇa Parva.
