तन्मे दहति गात्राणि शुष्कवृक्षमिवानल: । यदिच्छामि महाभाग त्वत्प्रसादात् परंतप
sañjaya uvāca |
anme dahati gātrāṇi śuṣkavṛkṣam ivānalaḥ |
yad icchāmi mahābhāga tvatprasādāt paraṃtapa |
kathayāmāsa durdharṣo viniḥśvasya punaḥ punaḥ ||
Sañjaya disse: “Esta desonra queima meus membros como o fogo consome uma árvore seca. Ó nobre, ó flagelo dos inimigos, por teu favor desejo realizá-lo.” Assim, o difícil de subjugar (Duryodhana), suspirando profundamente uma e outra vez, contou sua história—buscando o apoio de Bhīṣma para superar a humilhação da derrota e recuperar a honra na dura economia moral da guerra, em que o orgulho ferido pode impelir a mais violência.
