भीष्मशिबिरगमनम् — Duryodhana’s Visit to Bhīṣma’s Camp and the Command Appeal
रूपवान् बलसम्पन्नो गुणवान् सत्यविक्रम: । इन्द्रलोक॑ जगामाशु श्रुत्वा तत्रार्जुनं गतम्,इरावान् भी रूपवान, बलवान, गुणवान् और सत्यपराक्रमी था, बड़े होनेपर जब उसने सुना कि मेरे पिता अर्जुन इस समय इन्द्रलोकमें गये हुए हैं, तब वह शीघ्र ही वहाँ जा पहुँचा
sañjaya uvāca | rūpavān balasampanno guṇavān satyavikramaḥ | indralokaṃ jagāmāśu śrutvā tatrārjunaṃ gatam |
Sañjaya disse: Irāvān era belo, forte, virtuoso e de valor infalível. Já crescido, ao ouvir que Arjuna fora ao mundo de Indra, partiu sem demora e logo alcançou aquele reino celeste.
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights admirable personal qualities—beauty, strength, virtue, and steadfast valor—and connects them with prompt, purposeful action motivated by rightful relationship and respect for one’s father, suggesting that excellence of character should express itself in timely, directed conduct.
Sanjaya describes Irāvān and says that when Irāvān heard Arjuna had gone to Indra’s celestial realm, he swiftly went there as well, marking a movement of characters into the divine sphere within the unfolding war narrative.
