Deployment of the Great Battle Arrays

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights the moral-psychological force that drives warriors in dharma-yuddha: disciplined skill (kṛtāstra), endurance (jitaklama), and intense resolve that can manifest as wrath. It implicitly warns that anger, though energizing in war, is also ‘poison’—a dangerous power that must be directed and contained.

Sañjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra about the formidable warriors fighting on the Pāṇḍavas’ side. He characterizes them as elite, famous, highly trained, tireless, and fiercely hostile—depicting their battle-readiness and the threat they pose to the Kaurava forces.
