कलिड्नां च समरे भीमस्य च महात्मन: । जगत: प्रक्षयकरं घोररूपं भयावहम्,इधर धृष्टद्युम्म भी उस समरांगणमें धर्मराज युधिष्ठिरके पास चले गये। तत्पश्चात् समरभूमिमें कलिंगदेशीय योद्धाओं और महामनस्वी भीमसेनका अत्यन्त भयंकर तथा रोमांचकारी युद्ध होने लगा। जो सम्पूर्ण जागत्का विनाश करनेवाला घोरस्वरूप एवं महान् भयदायक था
kaliṅgānāṃ ca samare bhīmasya ca mahātmanaḥ | jagataḥ prakṣayakaraṃ ghorarūpaṃ bhayāvaham ||
Disse Sañjaya: Então, no campo de batalha, teve início um confronto terrível entre os guerreiros de Kaliṅga e Bhīma, o magnânimo—horrendo de ver, inspirador de medo, como se pudesse trazer a ruína ao mundo inteiro. A cena ressalta como a fúria marcial sem freio pode parecer apocalíptica, mesmo quando travada no âmbito de uma guerra de dharma.
संजय उवाच
