अभ्चारोहैश्व समरे हस्तिसादिभिरेव च । प्रतिमानेषु गात्रेषु पाश्वेष्वभि च वारणान् | आशुगा विमलास्ती क्ष्णा: सम्पेतुर्भुजगोपमा:
abhyārohāiś ca samare hastisādibhir eva ca | pratimāneṣu gātreṣu pārśveṣv abhi ca vāraṇān | āśugā vimalās tīkṣṇāḥ sampetur bhujagopamāḥ ||
Sañjaya disse: Naquela batalha, flechas—rápidas, límpidas, afiadas como navalhas e terríveis como serpentes—disparadas por cavaleiros e por aqueles montados em elefantes, atingiam os elefantes na testa, em outros membros e ao longo dos flancos. A cena revela a mecânica implacável da guerra: habilidade e velocidade tornam-se instrumentos de dano, e até criaturas poderosas viram alvo na busca humana pela vitória.
