tato nṛpāḥ samājahus tanūni ca mṛdūni ca | upadhānāni mukhyāni naicchat tāni pitāmahaḥ ||
Então os reis trouxeram muitas almofadas excelentes, feitas de materiais finos e macios; mas o avô Bhīṣma não quis aceitá-las.
संजय उवाच
Bhīṣma’s refusal of luxurious comfort highlights steadfastness in dharma and self-discipline: even in pain he maintains the austerity and dignity expected of a great kṣatriya elder, valuing principle over ease.
After Bhīṣma has fallen and lies suffering, the surrounding kings bring fine, soft pillows to ease him; Bhīṣma declines them, choosing to endure without accepting such comforts.
