वे मानससरोवरमें निवास करनेवाले हंसरूपधारी महर्षि एक साथ उड़ते हुए बड़ी उतावलीके साथ कुरुकुलके वृद्धपितामह भीष्मका दर्शन करनेके लिये उस स्थानपर आये, जहाँ वे नरश्रेष्ठ बाणशय्यापर सो रहे थे ।। ते तु भीष्म॑ं समासाद्य ऋषयो हंसरूपिण: । अपश्यज्छरतल्पस्थं भीष्म कुरुकुलोद्हम्‌,उन हंसरूपधारी ऋषियोंने वहाँ पहुँचकर कुरुकुल-धुरन्धर वीर भीष्मको बाणशय्यापर सोये हुए देखा

sañjaya uvāca | te tu bhīṣmaṃ samāsādya ṛṣayo haṃsarūpiṇaḥ | apaśyañ charatalpasthaṃ bhīṣmaṃ kurukulodvaham ||

Sañjaya disse: Aqueles sábios, assumindo a forma de cisnes, voaram juntos com grande pressa para contemplar Bhīṣma, o velho pitāmaha da casa dos Kurus, no lugar onde o melhor dos homens repousava sobre o leito de flechas. Aproximando-se de Bhīṣma, os rishis em forma de cisne o viram — o mais eminente sustentáculo da linhagem Kuru — deitado na cama de setas.
