Adhyāya 107 — बहुयुद्धप्रकरणम्
Multiple Defensive Engagements to Protect Bhīṣma
सात्यकि: कृतवर्माणं वारयित्वा महारणे । शरैरबहुविधै राजन्नाससाद पितामहम्,राजन्! दूसरी ओर उस महायुद्धमें सात्यकिने कृतवर्माको रोककर नाना प्रकारके बाणोंकी वर्षा करते हुए पितामह भीष्मपर धावा किया
sātyakiḥ kṛtavarmāṇaṃ vārayitvā mahāraṇe | śarair bahuvidhair rājann āsasāda pitāmaham ||
Sañjaya disse: Nessa grande batalha, Sātyaki conteve Kṛtavarman e, ó Rei, cobriu-o com uma chuva de flechas de muitos tipos; em seguida investiu diretamente contra o Avô Bhīṣma.
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights kṣatriya-dharma in practice: a warrior restrains an immediate opponent and then advances toward the principal danger, showing disciplined courage and strategic focus rather than scattered aggression.
Sañjaya reports that Sātyaki holds back Kṛtavarman in the thick of battle and, releasing a varied volley of arrows, rushes to engage Bhīṣma, the Kaurava commander and ‘Grandsire’ of the Kurus.
