ददर्श चापि दूरेडस्य मातरं शोककर्शिताम् । उलूप्या सह तिष्ठन्तीं ततो5पृच्छद् धनंजय:,उससे थोड़ी ही दूरपर बभ्रुवाहनकी शोकाकुल माता चित्रांगदा उलूपीके साथ खड़ी थी। अर्जुनने जब उसे देखा, तब बशभ्रुवाहनसे पूछा--
dadārśa cāpi dūre tasya mātaraṃ śokakarśitām | ulūpyā saha tiṣṭhantīṃ tato 'pṛcchad dhanaṃjayaḥ ||
Disse Vaiśaṃpāyana: Arjuna também viu, a pouca distância, sua mãe — consumida pela dor — de pé junto de Ulūpī. Ao vê-la ali, Dhanaṃjaya (Arjuna) então perguntou a Babhrūvāhana, buscando compreender a causa e o sentido da tristeza que se abatera sobre sua família.
