दानधर्मरता: शान्ता: सततं प्रियवादिन: । तेषां ज्येष्ठ: खनीनेत्र: स तान् सर्वानपीडयत्
dānadharmaratāḥ śāntāḥ satataṃ priyavādinaḥ | teṣāṃ jyeṣṭhaḥ khanīnetraḥ sa tān sarvān apīḍayat, rājan |
Vyāsa disse: “Eram dedicados à caridade e à conduta justa, de natureza pacífica e sempre de fala agradável. Contudo, o primogênito, chamado Khanīnetra, oprimia continuamente todos os demais, ó rei.”
व्यास उवाच
Outer virtues—charity, calmness, and pleasant speech—do not guarantee inner righteousness; true dharma is tested by how one treats the vulnerable, especially within one’s own family.
Vyāsa describes a group characterized by virtuous qualities, but notes a moral rupture: their eldest, Khanīnetra, repeatedly torments the others, creating suffering despite the group’s otherwise exemplary conduct.
