Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s Counsel on Royal Policy to Yudhiṣṭhira

Educational Q&A

A righteous king must uphold dharma by protecting earlier lawful grants and promises—especially endowments meant for religious and social maintenance—so that justice, trust, and continuity of governance are preserved.

The narrator describes Yudhiṣṭhira’s conduct as king: he maintains and protects land-grants and rewards previously conferred by earlier rulers, ensuring that beneficiaries (notably Brāhmaṇas) continue to receive what was duly given.
