Permission for Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s Forest-Retirement

Educational Q&A

The verse models ethical humility: one who has served others should acknowledge possible faults and actively seek forgiveness, while the community is urged to be vigilant yet compassionate in granting pardon.

Vaiśampāyana addresses a respected, ‘sinless’ assembly and asks them to forgive any shortcomings in his service, framing the request as a duty of the attentive and disciplined listeners/community.
