Moral failure should be met with honest self-assessment and corrective discipline: acknowledging one’s misguided choices and undertaking niyama (regulated restraint) as a means of inner purification and ethical realignment.
In the Āśramavāsika context, Dhṛtarāṣṭra reflects on the consequences of his past actions and declares that he has taken up regulated observances—an ascetic, vow-bound mode of life—to cleanse the sin he feels responsible for.
