Śrāddha-utpatti and Nivāpa–Agni Precedence (श्राद्धोत्पत्तिः—निवापेऽग्निपूर्वकत्वम्)
अपन बछ। है २ >> एकोननवतितमो< ध्याय: विभिन्न नक्षत्रोंमें श्राद्ध करनेका फल भीष्म उवाच यमस्तु यानि श्राद्धानि प्रोवाच शशबिन्दवे । तानि मे शृणु काम्यानि नक्षत्रेषु पृथक् पृथक्
bhīṣma uvāca | yamas tu yāni śrāddhāni provāca śaśabindave | tāni me śṛṇu kāmyāni nakṣatreṣu pṛthak pṛthak ||
Bhīṣma disse: “Ó Yudhiṣṭhira, ouve-me enquanto relato os śrāddha kāmya (ritos realizados visando um fruto desejado) que Yama outrora ensinou ao rei Śaśabindu—cada qual a ser executado sob um nakṣatra específico, com resultados distintos.”
भीष्म उवाच
That śrāddha can be performed as kāmya (aimed at specific desired outcomes), and that the timing—here, the particular nakṣatra—matters, with distinct fruits described for each.
Bhishma, instructing Yudhishthira on dharma, introduces a teaching attributed to Yama, who had earlier explained to King Śaśabindu the results of performing śrāddha under different nakṣatras; Bhishma now begins to relay that list.
