Chapter 84: Brahmā’s Counsel on Tāraka, the Search for Agni, and the Genesis of Skanda

बेटा! वरदान मिलनेके पश्चात् गौओंके सींग प्रकट हो गये। जिसके मनमें जैसे सींगकी इच्छा थी, उसके वैसे ही हो गये। नाना प्रकारके रूप-रंग और सींगसे युक्त हुई उन गौओंकी बड़ी शोभा होने लगी ।।
brahmaṇā varadattās tā havyakavyapradāḥ śubhāḥ | puṇyāḥ pavitrāḥ subhagā divyasaṃsthānalakṣaṇāḥ ||
Vyāsa disse: “Depois de receberem a dádiva, os chifres das vacas se manifestaram. Conforme cada uma desejava em sua mente que fossem os chifres, assim eles se tornaram. Revestidas de muitas formas e cores, e providas de chifres, aquelas vacas passaram a exibir grande esplendor. Pela bênção concedida por Brahmā, tornaram-se auspiciosas e benfazejas, aptas a prover oferendas tanto aos deuses (havis) quanto aos ancestrais (kavya). Eram santas e purificadoras, dotadas de boa fortuna, e marcadas por forma divina e sinais distintivos.”
व्यास उवाच
The verse highlights the dharmic value of divine gifts when aligned with sacred duty: the boon makes the cows auspicious and capable of supporting both deva-yajña (havya) and pitṛ-yajña (kavya), emphasizing purity, merit, and welfare through righteous ritual support.
Vyāsa describes the transformation of the cows after receiving Brahmā’s boon: they become splendid and divinely marked, and are characterized as auspicious, purifying, and able to provide offerings for gods and ancestors.
