प्रजा: सृजेति चादिष्ट: पूर्व दक्ष: स्वयम्भुवा । असृजद्‌ वृत्तिमेवाग्रे प्रजानां हितकाम्यया

Transliteration

prajāḥ sṛjeti cādiṣṭaḥ pūrvaṃ dakṣaḥ svayambhuvā | asṛjad vṛttim evāgre prajānāṃ hitakāmyayā ||

Translation

Disse Bhīṣma: No princípio, Dakṣa foi ordenado por Svayambhū (o Criador Auto-nascido): “Cria as criaturas.” Contudo, desejando o bem-estar dos seres, Dakṣa estabeleceu primeiro os seus meios de sustento e só então prosseguiu com a criação da descendência—ensinando que governar e criar deve começar por assegurar alimento e bem-estar.
