भूमिप्रदानात् पुष्पाणि हिरण्यनिचयास्तथा । आज्ञा सदाप्रतिहता जयशब्दा वसूनि च
bhūmipradānāt puṣpāṇi hiraṇyanicayās tathā | ājñā sadāpratihatā jayaśabdā vasūni ca ||
Bhishma disse: Do dom da terra nascem recompensas auspiciosas — flores (símbolos de honra e deleite), montes de ouro, autoridade cujo comando jamais é frustrado, brados de vitória e riquezas de muitas espécies. No quadro ético do Anushasana Parva, este verso exalta a doação de terras como um ato de dāna preeminente, que fortalece a ordem social e a retidão do doador.
भीष्म उवाच
Land-giving (bhūmi-dāna) is extolled as a highly meritorious charity that yields both material prosperity and social-political efficacy—honor, wealth, and an authority that faces no obstruction—thereby reinforcing dharma and stability.
In Bhishma’s instruction on dharma (Anushasana Parva), he enumerates the fruits of specific gifts; here he lists the rewards attributed to donating land, presenting it as a superior form of dāna with tangible and reputational outcomes.
