Cyavana–Kuśika Dialogue on Lineage, Conflict, and Transmission
क्लृप्तमेव तु तत्रासीत् स्नानीयं पार्थिवोचितम् । असत्कृत्य च तत् सर्व तत्रैवान्न्तरधीयत
klṛptam eva tu tatrāsīt snānīyaṁ pārthivocitam | asatkṛtya ca tat sarvaṁ tatraivāntaradhīyata ||
Disse Bhīṣma: Ali, os apetrechos de banho, dignos de um rei, já haviam sido preparados de antemão. Contudo, o sábio desprezou tudo—sem fazer o menor uso—e, diante dos olhos do rei, desapareceu naquele mesmo lugar. Ainda assim, aquele marido e aquela esposa não o olharam com censura nem deixaram nascer desrespeito pelo asceta.
भीष्म उवाच
Even when one’s hospitality or arrangements are not accepted, one should not lapse into blame or resentment—especially toward ascetics. Dharma is shown through restraint, reverence, and the refusal to cultivate a fault-finding attitude.
A king has already prepared royal bathing materials for a visiting sage. The sage ignores the entire arrangement and, in front of the king, vanishes on the spot. Despite this unexpected act, the king and queen do not judge the sage or view him with दोष-दृष्टि (a blaming gaze).
