पतित पुरुषका अपनी स्त्रीके गर्भसे स्वयं ही उत्पन्न किया हुआ पुत्र चौथी श्रेणीका पुत्र है। इसके सिवा “दत्तक' और “क्रीत' पुत्र भी होते हैं। ये कुल मिलाकर छः हुए। सातवाँ है “अध्यूढ” पुत्र (जो कुमारी-अवस्थामें ही माताके पेटमें आ गया और विवाह करनेवालेके घरमें आकर जिसका जन्म हुआ) ।।
ṣaḍ apadhvaṃsajāś cāpi kānīnāpasadās tathā | ity ete vai samākhyātās tān vijānīhi bhārata ||
Bhishma disse: “Sabe, ó Bharata, que além das espécies de filhos já descritas, há também seis chamados ‘apadhvaṃsaja’ (descendência oriunda de uniões mistas aprovadas na ordem direta) e os denominados ‘kānīna’ e ‘apasada’ (descendência de uniões mistas reprovadas na ordem inversa). Assim se enumeram essas variedades; entende-as como categorias reconhecidas de filhos no discurso do dharma sobre linhagem e ordem social.”
भीष्म उवाच
The verse continues a dharma-classification of ‘sons’ for purposes of lineage and social/legal recognition, stressing that multiple categories—especially those arising from mixed unions—are still to be understood within an enumerated framework of dharma discourse.
In Anushasana Parva, Bhishma instructs Yudhiṣṭhira on dharma topics. Here he lists additional categories of sons—apadhvaṃsaja, kānīna, and apasada—within a broader enumeration of twenty types mentioned in the surrounding passage.
