देवदत्तां पतिर्भा्या वेत्ति धर्मस्य शासनात् । स दैवीं मानुषी वाचमनृतां पर्युदस्यति
devadattāṁ patir bhāryāṁ vetti dharmasya śāsanāt | sa daivīṁ mānuṣīṁ vācam anṛtāṁ paryudasyati ||
Bhishma disse: “Em obediência às ordenanças do dharma, o marido reconhece como esposa a mulher que, de modo legítimo, lhe chegou como quinhão divino. Por isso, ele a aceita como dádiva do destino e rejeita como falsidade o mero falatório humano que declararia impróprio tal matrimônio.”
