Dāyavibhāga (Inheritance Apportionment) and Household Precedence — Dialogue of Yudhiṣṭhira and Bhīṣma

प्रजा न हीयते तस्या रतिश्ष भरतर्षभ । अतोडन्‍्यथा वर्तमाना भवेद्‌ वाच्या प्रजापते:

prajā na hīyate tasyā ratiś ca bharatarṣabha | ato 'nyathā vartamānā bhaved vācyā prajāpateḥ ||

Bhishma disse: “Ó touro entre os Bharatas, em tal caso, a prole dessa mulher não é tida como rebaixada em condição, nem a sua união (com aquele homem) é considerada censurável. Mas a mulher que age em sentido contrário a este caminho correto torna-se repreensível aos olhos de Prajāpati (o Senhor das criaturas), pois se afasta da norma de conduta ordenada.”
