Śulka, Kanyā, and Dauhitra-Riktha: Discourse on Bride-Price and Inheritance Rights (शुल्क-कन्या-दौहित्र-रिक्थविचारः)
तस्य चिन्तयतस्तात वहूव्यो दिननिशा ययु: । इदमासीन्मनसि स रुच्या रक्षणकारितम्
tasya cintayatas tāta bahvyo dina-niśā yayuḥ | idam āsīn manasi sa rucyā rakṣaṇa-kāritam ||
Bhishma disse: “Ó querido, enquanto ele permanecia a refletir, muitos dias e muitas noites se passaram. Então, com o propósito de proteger Ruchi, surgiu em sua mente uma firme resolução.”
भीष्म उवाच
The verse highlights ethical deliberation: sustained reflection on one’s duty can culminate in a firm resolve aimed at protecting the vulnerable, presenting protection (rakṣaṇa) as a dharmic imperative.
After many days and nights of anxious thought, the person being described forms a plan in his mind—prompted specifically by the need to protect Ruchi.
