Śulka, Kanyā, and Dauhitra-Riktha: Discourse on Bride-Price and Inheritance Rights (शुल्क-कन्या-दौहित्र-रिक्थविचारः)
लोभमास्थाय योअस्माकं विषमं कर्तुमुत्सहेत् । विपुलस्य परे लोके या गतिस्तामवाप्लुयात्
lobham āsthāya yo ’smākaṁ viṣamaṁ kartum utsahet | vipulasya pare loke yā gatis tām avāpluyāt ||
Bhishma disse: “Quem, entre os nossos, abrigando-se na cobiça, ousar agir com desonestidade, alcançará o mesmo destino que aguarda Vipula no outro mundo.”
भीष्म उवाच
Greed-driven dishonesty (viṣama) is condemned: one who resorts to lobha and acts unfairly incurs a grave posthumous consequence, exemplified by Vipula’s fate.
In Bhishma’s instruction on dharma, he warns his audience that any member of their community who dares to commit deceit out of greed will attain the same otherworldly destiny as the figure named Vipula, invoked as a cautionary example.
