प्रतर्दनको आया जान भृगुजी आश्रमसे निकले। उन्होंने नृपश्रेष्ठ प्रतर्दनका विधिपूर्वक स्वागत-सत्कार किया ।। उवाच चैन राजेन्द्र कि कार्य ब्रूहि पार्थिव | स चोवाच नृपस्तस्मै यदागमनकारणम्,और इस प्रकार पूछा--'राजेन्द्र! पृथ्वीनाथ! मुझसे आपका क्या काम है, बताइये।' तब राजाने उनसे अपने आगमनका जो कारण था, उसे इस प्रकार बताया
pratardanako āyā jñātvā bhṛgujī āśramase nikale | teṣāṁ nṛpaśreṣṭha-pratardanasya vidhipūrvakaṁ svāgata-satkāraṁ cakruḥ || uvāca ca enaṁ rājendra kiṁ kāryaṁ brūhi pārthiva | sa covāca nṛpastasmai yadāgamanakāraṇam ||
Bhṛgu, ao saber que o rei Pratardana havia chegado, saiu de seu eremitério. Acolheu e honrou devidamente aquele melhor dos reis. Então Bhṛgu lhe disse: “Ó senhor dos reis, ó governante da terra, dize-me: que propósito te traz aqui?” Em seguida, o rei explicou-lhe a razão de sua vinda.
