Tīrtha-vaṃśa Upadeśa: Instruction on the Fruits of Sacred Waters
वृत्तिच्छेदं गृहच्छेदं दारच्छेदं च भारत । मित्रच्छेदं तथा55शायास्ते वै निरयगामिन:
vṛtticchedaṁ gṛhacchedaṁ dāracchedaṁ ca bhārata | mitracchedaṁ tathāśāyās te vai nirayagāminaḥ ||
Bhīṣma disse: Ó Bhārata, aqueles que cortam o sustento de outrem, arruínam lares, separam marido e esposa, semeiam discórdia entre amigos e despedaçam a esperança de uma pessoa—esses, com certeza, estão destinados ao inferno.
भीष्म उवाच
Deliberately harming the foundations of another person’s life—income, home, marriage, friendships, and hope—is a grave adharma with severe karmic consequence, described here as leading to niraya (hell).
In the Anuśāsana Parva, Bhīṣma instructs Yudhiṣṭhira on dharma and moral conduct. This verse lists specific social harms and warns of their spiritual and posthumous consequences.
