Gṛhastha-Vrata
स दुर्जय इति ख्यातः सर्वशस्त्रभृतां वर: । सुवीरका पुत्र दुर्जय नामसे विख्यात हुआ। वह सभी संग्रामोंमें शत्रुओंके लिये दुर्जय तथा सम्पूर्ण शस्त्रधारियोंमें श्रेष्ठ था
sa durjaya iti khyātaḥ sarvaśastrabhṛtāṃ varaḥ |
Disse Bhīṣma: Ele tornou-se célebre pelo nome “Durjaya” (“o Inconquistável”). Em batalha era difícil de ser vencido pelos inimigos e, entre todos os que portavam armas, era contado como o primeiro—sua fama repousava na excelência marcial e na destemoridade esperada de um kṣatriya.
भीष्म उवाच
The verse highlights the kṣatriya ideal that renown should arise from steadfast courage and excellence in rightful combat; a warrior’s name and reputation are portrayed as consequences of demonstrated strength and fearlessness.
Bhīṣma is describing a warrior who became famous as “Durjaya,” emphasizing that he was considered unconquerable in battle and the foremost among weapon-bearing fighters.
